Your Elite Eight Matchups

After a topsy turvy round 3, the regions that Mom seeded are starting to look more like chalk. Dad's region still has two Cinderellas alive, in Stella and Lucille. (Cinderella was never considered as a possibility, by the way.)

For this week's matchups, we are including a link to the first interesting video that comes up when we Google each name. Hopefully, that can help you to decide as the matchups get tougher.

Midwest Region

8. Stella vs. 7. Lucille

"Stella" came up big, with the comedy troupe that had a show (for about half a season) on Comedy Central:



"Lucille" came back with the Kenny Rogers song, but we already posted that. We went with this one instead:



South Region

1. Parker vs. 6. Grace

"Parker" returned a few good videos ahead of this Maceo tune, but this is the song that Dad serenaded Mom with at the wedding. It's important that this blog is embarrassing to our teenage daughter, so here you go:



"Grace" came back with a real doozy:



West Region

3. Reade vs. 1. Quinn

"Reade" is the last name of an underwear model, apparently, so the first thirty or so videos that came up didn't make the cut. We eventually gave up and went with a haul video.



If Quinn turns out anything like this little boy, we will be pulling the guitars out of storage sooner than expected:



East Region

1. Phoebe vs. 2. Cecilia

"Phoebe" was unfortunately saturated with videos from television's "Friends." Dad hates that show, but really likes the name "Phoebe," so we went with the best quality Phoebe Snow video that came up. Mom and Dad both like her voice. Also, there is a poor quality video out there of her singing "Dirty Work" with Steely Dan. How cool is that?



There is a big opera singer named "Cecilia," and then there's the Simon and Garfunkel song that you were already thinking of anyway. The Pixies were a little further down the list, but they're super awesome anyway.

Round 2 Winners/Round 3 Matchups

Sorry for the lag time between rounds two and three. We took the twins on an in-utero road trip with their Grandma Stanley, so we haven't been able to tally the votes. All told, the second round of voting wasn't as close as the first. There were only two ties this round. (Mom decides the winner if there's a tie.)

Midwest Region

8. Stella vs. 5. Audrey

(Wilma) made a surprisingly strong run, but she was ultimately beaten by Stella. Probably good for when our daughter learns to spell.

7. Lucille vs. 14. Kayleigh

Lucille is an unlikely entrant into the sweet sixteen round, given that the brackets that most people filled out didn't even have that as an option. (Mom made Dad remove "Marilyn" from contention, but the brackets were circulated before the change was integrated.)

Kayleigh is just plain awful. And over Aja. What is wrong with the kids today?

South Region

1. Parker vs. 5. Ophelia

Dad's a big fan of both names here, but Parker is in his championship round.

10. Allison vs. 6. Grace

A disproportionate share of Catholic coworkers gave Grace a strong run in the second round.

West Region

1. Quinn vs. 12. Lillian

Both strong contenders in the second round, but now things start to get serious.

2. Pepper vs. 3. Reade

No, we will not name the other child "Salt."

East Region

1. Phoebe vs. 12. Madeleine

Looks like 12 was too low a seed for Madeleine, who absolutely pummeled Annette. Given that one of the secretaries in Dad's office is named Annette, this was a startling result.

2. Cecilia vs. 11. Ella

Dad just listened to the lyrics to that song, thinks maybe Ella would be a better name.
